Android users can log into some Google services using their fingerprint

Logging into some Google services on Android is now as easy as unlocking your phone

As demonstrated in the GIF, using your fingerprint to access your account information is as easy as selecting the "use your lock screen" option and then scanning your fingerprint when the prompt appears on your screen.

Not having to remember a password means this is a much more convenient way to log in, and it's also much more secure. But unless you use a password manager (something we'd strongly recommend) or have a superb memory, remembering those passwords can get a tad hard. Users will now be able verify their identity through the screen unlock function via their Android devices.

The company has announced a key step in that direction by enabling fingerprint-based verification when visiting some Google services on one of its Pixel phones. The company said this functionality is available for all Pixel users today, and will be rolling out to all using Android 7 or above in coming days.

These enhancements are built using the FIDO2 standards, W3C WebAuthn and FIDO CTAP, and are created to provide simpler and more secure authentication experiences. Moreover, for added security, the biometric data of the user is always stored on the device itself.

Google says goodbye to passwords.

Muslims commend Government for declaring Eid Al Adha public holiday

New US rule on immigration could impact Indians
Cuccinelli argues that immigrants who have used these benefits can still advocate for getting a green card or legal status. The National Immigration Law Center said it intends to sue the Trump administration to halt the rule's implementation.

This change is part of Google's strategy to reduce reliance on passwords and shift to more secure two-factor authentication methods.

Google says users shouldn't be anxious about their fingerprints being sent to its servers because the fingerprint is actually registered and stored on the device. This service lets you manage all of the passwords that Chrome has saved for you. Google said by using FIDO2, it can use the same authentication method both on the web and in the app.

Follow the instructions to verify that it is you signing in.

Once Google has credentials for a specific Android device, users can log in with their fingerprint to a compatible service.
