New Zealand PM Vows to Change Gun Legislation After Christchurch Mosque Massacre

Jacinda Ardern said the gunman a 28-year-old Australian obtained a gun licence in November 2017 Attacks on two Christchurch mosques left at least 49 dead on March 15 with one gunman- identified as an Australian extremist- apparently livestreaming

She was shot in the face, the abdomen and the leg. Al-Daraghmeh told the station that his brother was also wounded and remained in stable condition.

For many, the road to recovery will require multiple surgical procedures and many survivors said the mental scars may never fully heal.

Two other armed suspects were taken into custody while police tried to determine what role, if any, they played in the cold-blooded attack that shocked the world and is the deadliest shooting in the country's modern history.

The police initially said that four people had been detained in the wake of the attacks.

"It's outrageous, the feeling is outrageous", he said. Ardern said some were from Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The massacre has prompted an outpouring of grief and anger around the world.

A spokesman from Ms Ardern's office confirmed the document was sent to a generic address not checked by the prime minister herself.

"My Islam is telling me to live in peace", he told the 175 worshippers who gathered to pray, some wearing robes, others business suits, track suits or jeans. "Our hearts are breaking for your loss", read one of the notes marked with a string of x-kisses.

Ardern said the investigation was ongoing but authorities believed there was only "one primary perpetrator".

The Mosque shooter appears to have modified the weapons used in the attack, in violation of his gun license.

"The mere fact. that this individual had acquired a gun licence and acquired weapons of that range, then obviously I think people will be seeking change, and I'm committing to that", the Agence France-Presse quoted Ardern as saying. Police also defused explosive devices in a vehicle.

She firmly added in a statement: "Our gun laws will change".

The suspect documented his radicalisation and two years of preparations in a lengthy, meandering and conspiracy filled far-right "manifesto".

Ardern confirmed that the suspected gunman had not been on the radar of any intelligence agencies for extremism

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, said on Friday: "Whilst there is no intelligence linking these appalling events in Christchurch to the United Kingdom, additional uniform patrols will continue in London and nationally over the coming days, focusing on places of worship and specific communities".

Tarrant is accused of murdering a man, whose name was suppressed by Judge Paul Kellar on grounds of undue hardship to his family, according to reports.

Tributes to the victims poured in from around the world.

Trump condemned the attack but referred to it as a massacre instead of defining it as a terror attack.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said "gun laws will change" in the country.

New Zealand police commissioner Mike Bush said two of those in custody were arrested at a cordon, and that officers were working to establish whether they had had any involvement in the incident.

The attack has prompted searching questions about whether right-wing extremism has been treated with enough seriousness by Western governments.

"It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack", Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, noting that numerous victims could be migrants or refugees.

Ardern earlier on Saturday said that the attacker used five guns, two of them semi-automatic, that had all been obtained legally with an A-class gun license.

She has asked whether any communication had taken place, on social media or otherwise, that should have alerted security agencies to Tarrant.

"We just want to make our guests feel welcome and safe", she said.
