Elizabeth Warren officially launches 2020 presidential campaign

Sen. Elizabeth Warren formally launched her presidential bid Saturday by reemphasizing her signature issues of fighting economic inequality and corporate wrongdoing, an effort to move beyond new questions that arose in recent days about her previous claims that she was a Native American. Doug Rubin, a Boston-based strategist who advised Warren during her first Senate run in 2012, said in an interview that most voters will respond to "the powerful message she's been talking about", in terms of battling social and economic injustices, rather than the back-and-forth over her personal identity.

Ms Warren intends to spend Sunday in Iowa, where the lead-off caucuses will be the first test of candidates' viability.

She pointedly said of President Donald Trump, "The man in the White House is not the cause of what is broken". California Representatives Ted Lieu, Katie Hill, and Nanette Barragán have all endorsed California Senator Kamala Harris, who officially announced her candidacy last month.

She was to be introduced by Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., who meant to endorse her candidacy, according to an official familiar with his plans. The first debates among the Democratic primary field, which is expected to be large, are scheduled for June, with the first voting to follow in January 2020.

Warren would enter the race as one of the party's most recognizable figures. After first winning election to the United States senate in 2012, Warren became one of the body's most outspoken critics of outlaw financial practices and white-collar impunity.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Warren could not say whether she had listed her race as American Indian on other forms at the time. "You built a factory out there - good for you". "I want a candidate who will win". In a statement she focused on having created "confusion" over "tribal sovereignty and tribal citizenship" and her apology for that. McConnell's complaint about Warren - "Nevertheless, she persisted" - has become a rallying cry for activists.

The entire saga - from Trump's derogatory nickname for her, to the controversial release of her DNA test, to her Texas state bar registration - has Democrats anxious the claims to Native American ancestry will weigh on Warren as the missing e-mails did on Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Senator Elizabeth Warren today announced she was running to rival President Donald Trump in the 2020 U.S. elections. Her past claims to Native American heritage, including a controversial DNA test to prove she had distant Native American ancestry, landed her in hot water with the Cherokee Nation.

Warren, whose parents growing up in Oklahoma were a department store salesman and a homemaker, was a registered Republican for most of the 1990s.

A Monmouth University poll showed Warren get a boost in national support after she announced her exploratory campaign at the end of a year ago. After their divorce in 1978, she married Bruce Mann, a Harvard University law professor, in 1980.
