Polish security services have arrested a Chinese national and Polish national for spying, according to local press.

China's embassy in Poland named him as Weijing Wang.

A LinkedIn profile for Mr Wang showed he has worked for Huawei's Polish division since 2011 and previously served as attache to the Chinese General Consul in Gdansk from 2006-2011.

The two men were arrested on Tuesday.

The Chinese foreign ministry said that they are very much concerned about these arrests.

Wang Weijing was detained by Polish authorities yesterday alongside an Orange employee, who is reportedly a former agent in Poland's security service.

While the MateBook 13 was certainly Huawei's biggest focus at CES 2019, it wasn't the only announcement from the company. They'll both remain in custody for at least three months.

Huawei said it "complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where it operates, and we require every employee to abide by the laws and regulations in the countries where they are based".

This is the second incident after Huawei's CFO got arrested in Canada.

A Huawei employee was arrested in Poland on Tuesday and charged with spying for China, according to numerous media reports. Her arrest highlighted US accusations that Huawei broke sanctions against Iran, but the USA has also been pushing to try to curtail Huawei's influence, warning about the company's possible ties to Chinese intelligence and calling on countries to exclude the company as they build new 5G networks.

Some European governments and telecom companies are following the US lead in questioning whether using Huawei for vital infrastructure for mobile networks could leave them exposed to snooping by the Chinese government.

This refusal to use Huawei's products come from the belief that doing so would pose "significant risks to national security" and potentially provide sensitive information back to Beijing through "backdoors" installed in Huawei products.

He is a graduate of the Beijing University of Foreign Studies.

Canada detained the company's chief financial officer in early December on charges related to Iranian sanctions. She has been released on bail, but faces a lengthy legal fight over extradition to the United States.

Last year Australia, New Zealand and Japan instituted their own bans against using Huawei.

On top of general distrust sparked by Western governments and intelligence agencies, CFO Wangzhou Meng is facing extradition to the U.S. over accusations she helped avoid sanctions.

Canada's arrest of Meng, and China's apparent retaliation in detaining up to 13 Canadian citizens in China, including a former diplomat Michael Kovrig and North Korean consultant Michael Spavor, has soured bilateral relations.
