Saudi sisters' bound bodies wash ashore in mystery

Police have identified the two women whose duct-taped bodies were found washed up from the Hudson River as sisters

Shea released new images of the Farea sisters, which he said were obtained with the cooperation of the family.

The sisters came to the US from Saudi Arabia with their mother in 2015.

A NY police spokesman said Sunday that police were awaiting the results of autopsies on the sisters before determining whether the case was a homicide.

They had been previously reported missing in December 2017. "Meet them? See them?"

Chief of detectives Dermot Shea said police are interested in finding out why the girls had headed for New York City, adding that "all clues in their past life" were being looked at.

The younger sister, Tala, was reported missing again in August by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

"We've made significant progress in piecing together pieces of this puzzle to find out what happened", Shea said. Rotana Farea had been enrolled at George Mason University until the spring.

The PM2.5 (presence of particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres) was recorded at 179. It also recommended that people go for shorter walks instead of jogs, keep windows closed and wear masks.

But there's still few public details about either sister's past.

A day before their bodies were discovered, their mother told detectives she had received a call from an official at the Saudi Arabian embassy, ordering the family to leave the U.S. because her daughters had applied for political asylum, NY police said.

The two bodies were found on Wednesday at around 3:00pm by a passer-by who informed the police.

Neither woman's body had immediately obvious signs of trauma, and after initially suspecting that the pair might have jumped from the George Washington Bridge, cops cooled on the theory Tuesday.

The Consulate General is following closely with local authorities the investigation of the two Saudi citizens found in the Hudson river.

Several rumors surfaced with regards to the girls' mysterious deaths, including claims that they'd been missing for two months. Law&Crime repeatedly reached out to the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, D.C. for comment or clarification on the mother's allegation but no response was forthcoming at the time of publication.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
