Why Saudi Arabia is valuable to Trump

On Monday, the Saudi government permitted Turkish officials to inspect the consulate nearly two weeks after Khashoggi first went missing.

One source says the report will likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held responsible.

Mr Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government who has written for the Washington Post, was last seen walking into the consulate on 2 October. But Trump has said he is wary of halting USA military sales to Saudi Arabia over the incident.

The political fallout of the disappearance and possible death of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi has continued to reverberate around world, casting a cloud on a major investment conference aimed at promoting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's plans for the kingdom.

Khashoggi's fate has troubled Washington and Saudi Arabia's other traditional Western allies.

Literally minutes after Saudi authorities said Turkish investigators could enter the consulate-a cleaning team arrived and entered the building.

Donald Trump said the Saudi leader had firmly denied knowing what had happened to Mr Khashoggi. Britain, France and Germany, which have also tended to prioritize economic ties with Riyadh, issued a joint statement saying they "expect the Saudi government to provide a complete and detailed response".

It comes as Saudi Arabia has denied involvement in his disappearance. The third individual said the USA government still doesn't know precisely what explanation the Saudis plan to give, but that the Saudis intend to admit "culpability".

The October exports are a sharp drop from the 2.5 million bpd exported in April before U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from a multi-lateral nuclear deal with Iran in May and ordered the re-imposition of economic sanctions on the country, the third-largest producer among the members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). "We're very much working with our allies in the worldwide community to try and bring forward a concerted, or at least an aligned, response as we learn more about this situation", Trudeau said during a "fireside chat" at the Fortune Global Forum in Toronto.

Pelosi then questioned whether Trump put personal profit ahead of country in the case of Khashoggi - whom the Saudis are reportedly about to admit was killed in a botched interrogation.

King Salman has replaced two crown princes in the past. His disappearance has led to strong worldwide condemnation of Saudi Arabia, and that condemnation is now starting to trickle over into the business world.

Ford Motor Co Chairman Bill Ford also pulled out, as well as media organizations like CNN and Bloomberg which once served as sponsors of the conference.
