United States ambassador to United Nations resigns

On Tuesday, as Haley spoke to reporters next to President Donald Trump at the White House, she ruled out running for president in 2020, pledging to campaign for Trump's re-election.

Haley was appointed to the United Nations post in November 2016.

After a frosty relationship with Rex Tillerson, Trump's first secretary of state, she and Tillerson's successor, Mike Pompeo, often exchanged mutual praise.

UPDATE 10:21 a.m.: Trump previewed a "big announcement" with Haley from the Oval Office imminently...

Haley's first book, released in 2012 when she was governor of SC, was part of her launch as a national figure within the Republican party, and led to talk that year she might join the GOP ticket with Mitt Romney.

Trump praised Haley, saying she has done an "incredible job" and is "somebody who gets it".

Haley's influence at UN was blunted by Trump policy decisions that many other nations opposed, including recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, cutting aid to Palestinians and announcing a US withdrawal from the U.N. HR Council. The president also said that Haley "has been very special" to him and "is a fantastic person".

Protesters Pound on Doors of Supreme Court: ‘Kavanaugh Has Got to Go’
This is the second Supreme Court appointment by President Donald Trump , who said Judge Kavanaugh would be sworn in the same day. Joe Manchin as he confirmed his "yes" vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in the Senate Chamber Saturday afternoon.

But on one issue that raised speculation, Ms Haley dismissed any presidential run against her current boss in 2020.

At the UN, Haley helped spearhead the Trump administration's efforts to combat what it alleged to be anti-American and anti-Israel actions by the global body.

Haley has pressed for a hawkish line on Iran, justified U.S. cuts to foreign assistance and earlier this year led the United States in bolting from the UN Human Rights Council, accusing it of bias against Washington and Israel.

Outgoing Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley talks with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House after the President accepted Haley's resignation in Washington Tuesday. She was re-elected in 2014.

The report comes from Axios, which mistakenly promoted a similar "scoop" weeks ago - reporting that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had offered his resignation to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. Her op-ed was a response to an anonymous op-ed published in the New York Times from someone who identified as a senior administration official.

"I proudly serve in this administration, and I enthusiastically support most of its decisions and the direction it is taking the country. So I look forward to supporting the president in the next election", she said. Elected as the state's first female governor in 2010, she was in her second four-year term when Trump picked her.
