Scepticism over Turkish probe of Khashoggi disappearance

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's policies were targeted in some of Khashoggi's work

Missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi is seen walking into the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul in a surveillance photo published Tuesday by the Washington Post, and Turkish officials announced they've now been given permission to search the consulate - where Khashoggi was last seen.

"We would like to know exactly what happened inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance", said Mohamed Okad, a friend of Khashoggi and founder of Insight into Crisis, a conflict advisory group.

The source said that after entering the embassy Khashoggi was taken in a black Mercedes S-500 and a white minivan with four Saudi officials to Istanbul airport, where he was flown on a private jet to Dubai and then Riyadh, where he is now being held.

The Saudi Consulate insists Khashoggi left its building, contradicting Turkish officials who say they believe he is still there.

The journalist went to the building but "did not come back out", police were quoted as saying by Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency.

Mr Hunt said that if reports of Mr Khashoggi's death proved correct, the United Kingdom would regard the situation as "serious", adding: "Friendships depend on shared values".

In his first remarks about the disappearance, President Trump told reporters Monday afternoon that he was concerned.

Self-exiled Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi said earlier this year that the Saudi government has been moving toward nationalist radicalism. 'I don't like hearing about it and hopefully that will sort itself out.

Prince Turki later became the Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the USA, exposing Khashoggi to numerous roles of critical importance. The ministry did not say when the premises would be searched. "If he's in Saudi Arabia, I would know that".

Sen. Hirono: Democrats should focus on midterms instead of on impeaching Kavanaugh
So what were the numbers in the Senate? He flashed two thumbs up when the final vote was declared and aides on board applauded. Steve Daines of Montana, who supports Kavanaugh, but will be in Montana to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.

"His is a voice of reasoned criticism and wise comment that the Saudi crown prince should listen to", wrote Law, who said he had known Khashoggi for 16 years.

The details will add to pressure on the Saudi government to explain who the 15 Saudis were and what they were doing during their brief trip to Istanbul.

He went to the consulate on 2 October to obtain paperwork to marry his Turkish fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, who was reportedly waiting outside the building for him. He said that senior state officials have been in communication with Riyadh.

On Tuesday he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to get documents for his forthcoming marriage.

Speaking from Ankara the same day, Erdogan said, "As president, I am pursuing".

The mainstream is rightly starting to focus on the repressive history of the Saudi de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, but is not emphasizing that he is also responsible for the armed onslaught against neighboring Yemen, which has killed tens of thousands of civilians, maybe more, and triggered the largest cholera epidemic in human history.

He had been living since previous year in the United States, in a self-imposed exile.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday called on Saudi Arabia to investigate the odd disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, whose case has sparked global outcry over the extent of the kingdom's crackdown on dissent. He was a fierce critic of the Saudi regime. A USA official said that Turkish investigators believe Khashoggi was probably dismembered and his body removed in boxes and flown out of the country.

Members of Congress, where there has always been bipartisan skepticism about Saudi Arabia, have issued statements and tweets demanding answers from Riyadh. Sen.
