James 'Whitey' Bulger killed at US Penitentiary Hazelton in WV

Whitey Bulger Dead

A senior law enforcement official who oversees organized crime cases but was not involved in the investigation into Bulger's death, said he was told by a federal law enforcement official that an organized crime figure was believed to be responsible for the killing.

Whitey Bulger, the notorious Boston mobster, was killed in a West Virginia prison at the age of 89, confirms NBC News.

Bulger had just been moved to USP Hazelton, a high-security prison with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.

Prison officials haven't released details, but say his body was found sometime after he was moved to the prison.

Bulger was previously relocated from a Florida prison to a facility in Oklahoma.

Bulger spent 16 years on the FBI's Most Wanted list after going on the lam, fleeing his hometown as the feds closed in.

Bulger was sentenced to life in prison for 11 murders.

"Life-saving measures were initiated immediately by responding staff", the spokesperson said.

Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania said in a statement that "these senseless acts of violence are not who we are as Americans". The website states, "Tree of Life Congregation was founded more than 150 years ago, Or L'Simcha about 5 years ago".

Bulger had been serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2013 in a sweeping racketeering indictment, including on counts of participating in 11 murders in the 1970s and 1980s.

She was sentenced to eight years in prison for helping Bulger evade the law.

Bulger worked almost two decades as an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant while simultaneously running the Winter Hill Gang in Boston.

The tale became the basis for the 2006 Oscar-winning film "The Departed", which starred Jack Nicholson as a character modeled on Bulger.

Bulger was born September 3, 1929, in Boston.

"The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia and the FBI will be conducting an investigation into the death of James Bulger".

As they called him a coward, a rat, a punk and Satan, Bulger kept his head down and showed no emotion as he scribbled on a pad. According to the Boston Globe, a source said last week that Bulger was expected to be moved to a medical facility due to his deteriorating health.

Bulger was accused of strangling Debra Davis, the 26-year-old girlfriend of his partner, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi, and Deborah Hussey, also 26, the daughter of Flemmi's common-law wife.
