Crimea School Attack Wounded Will Be Airlifted to Russian Federation

Kerch FM

Russian Federation in the past few years has seen several school shootings that authorities say were reportedly inspired by gun violence in the U.S.

Authorities said 18-year-old student Vladislav Roslyakov detonated explosives and opened fire Wednesday at Kerch Polytechnic College before taking his own life.

Wednesday's attack was by far the worst by a student in Russian Federation, raising questions about school security in the country.

Another witness, who gave his name as Sergei and works near the college, said in a video on the Kerch.tv website that he heard "a bang and shots". The wall was covered in blood.

Dozens of soldiers rushed to the school around 12pm local time, suspecting a terrorist attack.

Medics managed to stabilize the condition of those who sustained grave injuries in the Kerch college attack in Crimea in the course of the night, Russian Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova said.

Numerous victims from Wednesday's attacks were teenage students who suffered shrapnel and bullet wounds.

Kremlin spokesman Peskov on Thursday said "measures will have to be taken to minimise or totally eliminate such risks in the future".

He said investigators were looking into the circumstances of the attack and the motive of the attacker.

Yet Russian news media, however, reported that at least some of the victims died in an attack by an unidentified gunman or gunmen.

Putin said the tragedy in Kerch is a signal that the humanity is failing to adapt to new realities of the globalized world.

Grebennikova, who said she had left the grounds shortly before the attack occurred, said students and staff were among victims.

Early this year, a teenager armed with an axe attacked fellow students at a school in Buryatia in southern Siberia, wounding five students and a teacher.

"It all started with those tragic events in American schools", Putin said.

Jose Mourinho charged for alleged abusive comments
He's got an important game at the weekend and this wasn't the game to use players who weren't 100 per cent. The players and formation will count for nought, however, if Mourinho does not get his tactics right.

After the attack, local officials declared a state of emergency on the Black Sea peninsula that they had annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Security has been stepped up in the city of 150,000, which sits in the far east of Crimea and is where a recently opened bridge links the Russian mainland to its newly annexed territory. Military units were deployed near the college to help emergency agencies.

Gun laws are strict in Russian Federation and civilians are permitted only to own hunting rifles and smoothbore shotguns, and have to undergo background checks. Civilians can own only hunting rifles and smoothbore shotguns and must undergo significant background checks.

Twenty people were killed and more than 50 wounded in the suicide shooting rampage, which also included at least one homemade bomb.

Russia's top investigative agency says an explosive device rigged with metal fragments caused the carnage at the school.

Several witnesses spoke of a gunman or gunmen and some mentioned a powerful explosion.

State television suggested Ukrainian agents were to blame.

Another student, Semyon Gavrilov, told the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper that he saw "a young man with a gun walking around shooting everybody", and how he himself had survived by hiding in a classroom.

Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks at the Russian Energy Week International Forum in Moscow, Russia, October 3, 2018.

He said he "saw bodies on the floor" and the walls were "charred" when police escorted him out of the building.

Several media outlets made a comparison with the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in the U.S., which left 13 people dead.

Russian Federation annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.

At least 10 of those who were wounded in a deadly shooting at a vocational school in Crimea will be airlifted to hospitals in Russian Federation, officials said.
