Americans Can't Opt Out of Today's 'Presidential Alert'

Despite the text message stating it was a test, it sparked Twitter mockery.

A second alert on television broadcast and radio went off at 1:20 p.m. CDT. "FEMA then sends the alerts to the wireless providers, which then push the alerts in turn to mobile phones in the impacted communities".

The test is a demonstration of the Wireless Emergency Alert system, which is kind of the 21st century iteration of the old "Emergency Broadcast System" that you still get on the the radio - the crunch and bleep interrupting Joe Perry's sick solo, the flat staticky voice telling you what you should do in case of a real emergency.

Another, Mollie Patzner, said "I was like what the heck is this?"

While users can opt out of messages on missing children and natural disasters, they can't opt out of the presidential alerts, which are issued at the direction of the White House and activated by FEMA.

The test is made available to EAS participants, officials said.

While VERIFY cannot state what a person or administration's long term intent or goals may be, we can VERIFY that the test on Wednesday was just that - a test.

But if a cellphone is turned on, and in range of a cell tower, the warning will come through.

Another Twitter user posted a screen shot of a different text message he received from the president.

Surface Pro 6 announced: familiar external design, big internal upgrades
As per a WinFuture report, Microsoft will launch the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 with some specification bumps. It promises to offer all-day battery life, which apparently is 14.5 hours, but your mileage will obviously vary.

It's the first nationwide test of the system built by the federal government and cell phone carriers to warn Americans of an emergency, like a terror attack or a widespread disaster. "No action is needed", the message read. The objective was to test the ability to distribute a national message and see if improvements are needed.

"The president will not be directly triggering this alert", the FEMA official explained on a briefing conference call on Tuesday. The main difference is that this is nationwide rather than regional.

Hollywood stars reacted with humor and sarcasm after receiving the first Presidential Alert. The alert will also have a header that reads "Presidential Alert". At 2:18 pm ET (or shortly after), you should see a text-based notification similar to a weather or AMBER alert. Given the name of the message and President Donald Trump's penchant for online communication, people have plenty of questions about this system and how it affects them. "No action is required".

It took 38 minutes for the Emergency Management Agency to rescind the alert, which was the result of human error.

The Southern District of NY court docket indicates summons were issued to Trump and FEMA Director William "Brock" Long on September 26. But for people who had no idea the test was coming, the synchronized buzzing of cellphones going off together came as a surprise.

"AMERICA: Do not, for the love of God, REPLY ALL to the presidential alert message", he wrote.

"It should be reserved for true situations, true emergencies, when we need to get the public's attention", Johnson said.

It is unknown if Trump will attempt to misuse this power as a political tool to make announcements.

"I believe that for any public alert, people should be able to opt out", one of the plaintiffs, Kristine Rakowsky, said.
