Trump administration withholds 100K Kavanaugh pages

Kenneth Starr testifies. Brett Kavanaugh to his right

The confirmation hearings for President Trump's nominee to be the next Supreme Court justice, Brett Kavanaugh, begin Tuesday, and Fox News Channel has can't-miss coverage.

Burck said in the letter that 101,921 pages are not being given to the committee because the White House believes they are protected by presidential privilege and, after discussions with the Justice Department, "has directed that we not provide these documents for this reason".

In Kavanaugh's case, Republicans are circumventing the normal vetting process for Supreme Court nominees by in order to have him confirmed by October 1, the start of the court's new term.

Some left-wing activists have been urging Senate Democrats to walk out in protest because they feel Democrats have not had enough time to review all of Kavanaugh's documents, but Biden reportedly said during a Pittsburgh Labor Day parade that Democrats should "stay in the room, demand answers and keep pointing out that they have not given the material that was expected to the committee".

Democrats have tried - unsuccessfully - to delay the Kavanaugh hearings, citing everything from Michael Cohen accusing Trump of criminal wrongdoing in court to the White House's decision to withhold 100,000 pages of records from Kavanaugh's service in the George W. Bush White House.

A spokeswoman for the late singer also said Aretha was "fond" of 25-year-old Grande. Aretha sang at his inauguration, just as she later did for Barack Obama , in 1993.

That decision, relayed in a letter late Friday, just days before confirmation hearings are set to begin Tuesday, is a move top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer of NY called a "Friday night document massacre". Most of the documents "reflect deliberations and candid advice concerning the selection and nomination of judicial candidates, the confidentiality of which is critical to any president's ability to carry out this core constitutional executive function", Burck wrote.

Sen. Dick Durbin of IL, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate and also a member of the Judiciary Committee, said on "FOX News Sunday" that they'd be lucky to see six percent of all the documents out there. In a release, the committee pointed out that Grassley had promised to facilitate the release of another set of documents, now available only to members, if senators keep their requests targeted to specific documents. "This is not normal", Klobuchar told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Sunday morning.

Kavanaugh must win a majority of the 100-seat Senate to approve his nomination.

Despite the Democratic grievances, Graham predicted Kavanaugh would be confirmed, calling him "the one person I think every Republican president would see is the most qualified of their generation".

However, Senator Lindsey Graham claimed that Kavanaugh may change the status quo of Roe v. Wade if given the opportunity.
