Serena Advances To 13th US Open Semi-Final

Serena Williams rolls into US Open semifinals

Williams and Stephens first have to win quarterfinal matches Tuesday.

'I really feel like right now I'm playing free because I was having a baby this time previous year so I have nothing to prove.

"I was thinking, 'You know, I can play better.' So that was the good news".

"To come this far, so fast", Williams told the fans afterward, "I'm just beginning, you guys".

Maybe. But that didn't last long.

Sevastova got her revenge from losing last year's US Open quarterfinal with Stephens.

The 36-year-old American did not compete in NY a year ago, because she gave birth to her daughter during the tournament.

"I feel like right now I'm playing free because I was having a baby this time a year ago, so I have nothing to prove".

"She has a really good forehand", said William of her opponent.

World number three Stephens, refused to blame the punishing afternoon heat and humidity for her lapses against Sevastova, including an inability to convert any of seven break chances in the opening set. She sure didn't attempt to hide her frustration, either, repeatedly gesturing toward or speaking in the direction of her coach, Kamau Murray, up in the stands.

By the start of the second set, Williams had more than filled in the holes in her game.

"Against Serena or Karolina, it's going to be a tough match - they play aggressive, they serve big", Sevastova said. "So, I thought I had to try harder".

"She's one of the best players in the world", Pliskova said.

Highway overpass collapses in Kolkata; 1 killed, 23 hurt
A mini bus, four cars and a few motorcycles that were damaged in the bridge collapse were removed using cranes, the official said. She said there was a hut under the bridge and some labourers engaged in metro rail construction work used to stay.

The 36-year-old, though, quickly found her groove.

Keys has won all three of their prior meetings, including a 2016 US Open third-round match in which the American rallied to win the third set in a tiebreaker.

And it looked like she could face more trouble when 26-year-old Pliskova threatened to go a double break up in the first set. Her timing was off. He's into the semifinals for the second year in a row, where he lost to top-ranked Rafael Nadal last year.

"It was a great match for me at the time", Pliskova says. The firepower was too strong for the number eight seed however with Williams firing her through to take the set 6-4.

Williams delivered 13 aces, part of a 35-12 edge in winners.

Gauff's father, Corey, played basketball at Georgia State and her mother, Candi, ran track at Florida State. She can still serve well.

Pliskova's game is built off her powerful serve. She went 15 of 21 in her fourth round at net. I'm getting those matches now.

The announcement comes as the semifinals of the U.S. Open are to begin in the stadium named for Ashe.

Yet one megastar remains at the US Open: Serena Williams, looming like Gulliver over the Lilliputians.

But del Potro presented all sorts of problems. "Not much that I could do on the break points". Still, it was Isner who struck first, closing the opening tiebreaker with a 132 miles per hour (212 kph) ace down the middle.

Drop shots: the solution for rest of the tournament?

"Quarters was my mental goal, every time I played a Grand Slam".
