North Korea’s Kim aims for denuclearization within Trump’s first term: Seoul

-North Korean nuclear talks.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in also agreed to meet Kim in the North Korean capital on September 18-20, the first such trip in 11 years.

"He said he would appreciate that such good faith is accepted with good faith", Chung said. Such a summit would make Moon the first South Korean leader to visit Pyongyang in 11 years.

North Korea is holding back from agreements to completely denuclearize, and state media has called for the signing of an end-of-war declaration with the United States.

Chung said Kim showed "frustration over the doubt raised by some parts of the worldwide community about his willingness to denuclearize, and asked us to convey his message to the United States". "He expressed his strong will to carry out more proactive measures toward denuclearization if action is taken in response to the North's preemptive steps".

North Korea "is the only country that has commitments under UN Security Council resolutions", he told reporters. During their call, Chung also was to deliver the message from Kim to the US, the presidential Blue House added. The dismantled missile-engine test site at Tongchang-ri is North Korea's only test facility.

"Kim also made it clear that he needs some kind of proof Trump has abandoned the US's hostile policy before moving toward denuclearization".

The nuclear talks may be at an impasse over the two parties' understanding of what was agreed to at the June summit. Last month, China held a trade fair on the North Korean border, attracting thousands of people with the aim of promoting economic ties with the Kim regime. Fighting in the 1950-53 war was halted by an armistice, which has governed the conflict ever since. Moon's popularity at home has fallen since his earlier meetings with Kim and the Trump-Kim summit.

North Korea's official KCNA news agency said Kim told the South's envoys that his "fixed stand" was to turn the Korean peninsula into "a cradle of peace without nuclear weapons, free from nuclear threat".

In addition to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the United States may send about three to four other warships, including destroyers and cruisers.

"Additionally, because of our much tougher trading stance with China, I do not believe they are helping with the process of denuclearisation as they once were", Trump said at the time. He said not enough progress had been made toward denuclearization.

Despite the faltering U.S.

But despite the difficulties, Kim's "trust in Trump remains unchanged", Chung said.

Moon spoke to his aides Thursday about the next meeting with Kim.

Besides, Kim may have little choice but to get what he can as fast as possible. Seoul, however, threw cold water on that idea, saying Thursday that such a summit was unlikely.

Such activity reportedly began back in March after President Donald Trump announced a meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, a move that allegedly stunned Beijing, which feared a loss of influence over a regime that is nearly fully dependent on their relationship. The official Korean Central News Agency dispatch provided no details of how that should be achieved and made no mention of stalled discussions with the USA or of Trump. He said Kim confirmed his commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. -North Korean diplomatic efforts appeared to have cooled.

At his upcoming summit, Moon will now face the unenviable task of bringing the USA and North Korea back to the negotiating table.
