Mystery surrounds death of Australian model on Greece superyacht

Sinead Mc Namara in Sými

Greek authorities have launched an investigation into her final hours on the boat, which was docked on the Greek island of Kefalonia.

Sinead McNamara, 20, originally from Port Macquarie in northern NSW, had been working onboard the Mayan Queen IV superyacht for about four months when she died on board the ship.

She died while being airlifted to hospital, the coastguard told The Times.

The Australian Instagram star was working on the Mayan Queen IV superyacht, owned by Mexican mining magnate Alberto Bailleresas, as it toured Europe.

Local media reports Baillères had left the boat on Tuesday and Sinead was left onboard with the rest of the boat crew.

Since news of the model's death broke, the comment sections of her Instagram posts have been filled with messages of condolence.

According to Greek media, the authorities have ordered that the yacht remain in the port of Argostoli while investigations take place.

Only the boat's crew were on board when Ms McNamara was found unconscious and "tangled in ropes" at the rear of the boat, The Australian newspaper reported.

Deputy Labour leader Tom Watson said Field's resignation was "a major wake up call". But Corbyn-supporting members of Labour have criticised Mr Field's decision.

The cause of death hasn't been determined yet.

Crew members have been interviewed by authorities, who also accessed CCTV footage taken onboard the vessel before it was allowed to depart.

McNamara, who had over 22,000 followers on Instagram, had posted a number of photos of her time in Greece calling herself "the happiest of happy".

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says it it has offered support to the McNamara family. McNamara was supposed to travel to the Greek town of Pylos before her death.

Three days before she passed, Sinead gave a shout out to her sister on her Facebook page saying, "happy birthday to the most awesome big sister I could ever ask for, 5 days till I get to see you!"

Her older sister Lauren was supposed to join their mother and meet up with Sinead in Greece where they'd vacation and celebrate Lauren's birthday.

Friends posted tributes to her throughout the weekend.
