Moonves to remain as unpaid adviser at CBS

CBS reaches deal with CEO Leslie Moonves amid new sexual harassment claims

"The appalling accusations in this article are untrue", Moonves said in a statement to The New Yorker. Discussions with Viacom blew up and soon segued into Moonves' ouster over sexual misconduct allegations from more than a dozen women.

Chief Operating Officer Joseph Ianniello will serve as President and Acting CEO while the Board conducts searches for a permanent replacement of Moonves.

Many progressives were angered two years ago when, as some Americans feared the potential election of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, Moonves openly celebrated the positive effect Trump's campaign was having on his $2.5 billion network.

The shocking exposé detailed several instances of Moonves' alleged inappropriate behavior and unwanted advances, including forcing the women to preform oral sex on him and exposing himself without their consent, as well as the reported use of physical violence, intimidation, and retaliation. The article followed a similar New Yorker report from July.

Another woman, Jessica Pallingston, said Moonves forced her to perform oral sex on her first day working as his assistant at Warner Bros productions.

One of them, Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb, filed a complaint past year with Los Angeles police, saying he had forced her to perform fellatio on him and thrown her violently against a wall. Reuters' sources confirmed this report on Sunday. "No large company is", he said.

"I really felt like this was one of the most sexist places I've ever worked", Sarah Johansen, who previously worked as an intern at CBS for Fager, told Farrow. Sarah Johansen, who was an intern in the late 2000s, says Fager once groped her at an office function and described the culture as "sexist" and a "boy's club". "It's a watershed moment", Moonves said at a conference in November. Six women who had professional dealings with him told me that, between the nineteen-eighties and the late aughts, Moonves sexually harassed them.

Farrow said the women who made allegations in his most recent story had no connection to the "corporate battles" at CBS. She wrote years after, when she chose to leave Hollywood for the rough and tumble classrooms of LA, "As an executive in the entertainment industry in the days when women were few and not particularly endeared by the powerful, I learned to be strong and tough".

Multiple news organizations reported Sunday that Moonves, who had been negotiating terms for his departure, will step down imminently. Moonves told a portion of the CBS board about the police probe earlier this year, the New Yorker said.

In the time that our article was being finalized and reviewed, a new article was published by the New Yorker featuring six additional women coming forward with assault and harassment claims against Moonves. Additionally, five members of the board will be replaced with new directors.

The media giant had been investigating Mr Moonves since July, when the original claims appeared in the New Yorker. But CBS News reported Monday that Moonves severance package was about $80 million.

Insisting that their encounters were "in no way" consensual, she dismissed his statement on Sunday that he had done nothing to harm any of his accusers' careers. But under Moonves, CBS' stock has soared while Viacom's has been relatively flat.

To make matters slightly more complicated, Moonves and CBS are now locked in a war with the company's main shareholder, National Amusements.
