Deputy shoots man who fired weapon at California racetrack

As the crowd panicked and fled, nearby deputies shot the man, leaving him lying on the sidewalk.

Video provided by Fox San Diego showed deputies struggling with a man in a white shirt on the ground. The man, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Elizarraras, was taken to hospital and is expected to survive, the San Diego Sheriff's Department stated.

About 7:30 p.m. Pacific time, the operators of the racetrack tweeted that "the situation has been contained", and the concert would be "moving forward as planned".

People at the venue saw a string of sheriff's and police cars responding to the fairgrounds around 6:40 p.m. After an argument ensued, Elizarraras pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and reportedly fired three shots in the air.

It has been reported by several local news outlets that a sheriff's deputy was shot but no civilians were injured in the incident.

A witness said some concertgoers appeared to leave the arena in the aftermath of the shooting incident.

Many concert goers left following the shooting, but Ice Cube went on as scheduled.

TVG's Todd Schrupp, who was heard on the television broadcast repeatedly exclaiming "Gunfire at the track!" during the gallop out of the 10th race, later took to Twitter to share details of the event.

SAN DIEGO A man who was told no more tickets were available for an Ice Cube concert at a California racetrack was shot Sunday night by a sheriff's deputy after the man fired a gun into a crowd. In light of the circumstances that unfolded involving one individual with a gun, we take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident.
