The Capital Gazette published its newspaper The Capital as normal Friday after reporters covered the shooting from a nearby parking garage.

A representative from the Baltimore Sun Media Group, which owns the Capital Gazette, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"That door is never locked from the inside out", he said, "And as soon as that happened it signaled to me, 'OK, this is intentional".

A judge ordered Ramos to remain detained during a court hearing Friday.

William Krampf, acting police chief of Anne Arundel County, said Thursday night that threats had been made to the newspaper on social media before the shooting, but it was not clear if Ramos had made them. The online records do not list an attorney for the individual.

He said police didn't have knowledge that the gunman was targeting anyone in particular and can't confirm whether the suspect knew employees at the paper or just targeted the publication. In a later interview on the paper's online site, Davis likened the newspaper office to a "war zone".
