Insider attack kills US service member in Afghanistan

The killing is the latest 'green on blue' attack suffered by Nato forces in Afghanistan

A U.S. service member has been killed and two others injured in what appears to be an insider attack in Afghanistan, Nato says. USA military officials at the top US military headquarters in Kabul could not immediately be reached for additional comment.

A Taliban spokesman said in a statement that the attack occurred at an airbase in Tarinkot, capital of Uruzgan province.

It was not immediately clear what became of the shooter.

The Taliban said on Twitter that "a patriot Afghan soldier opened fire on Americans in Uruzgan airport killing and wounding at least four American invaders".

Maciel's task force was deployed in support of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade, a newly established unit that is focused on advising and bolstering local troops and is seen as critical to America's strategy in Afghanistan, the statement said.

Netflix is Testing a New, More Expensive 'Ultra' Subscription
Aside from HDR support that would of course require compatible hardware, there are no other new features in the Ultra plan. Its website says the company may need to adjust prices to " respond to local market changes" such as taxes or inflation.

The incident marks the first combat fatality for the US military in Afghanistan since April 30 and the second there this year.

NATO's statement did not elaborate on the exact circumstances of the attack, but said it was under investigation.

The attack comes a year after three United States special forces soldiers were shot dead by one of their Afghan colleagues.

O'Donnell told RFE/RL that the last insider attack in Afghanistan occurred in August 2017, leaving a Romanian soldier injured. A U.S. Defense Department report released earlier this month found civilian casualties had increased 73 percent between December and May compared to the same period the year before.
