President Trump signs bill expanding private care for veterans

President Donald Trump has signed a bill into law that will expand private care for veterans as an alternative to the troubled Veterans Affairs health system

Recent legislation created to improve Veterans Affairs services has the potential to transform the system, according to Congressman Phil Roe.

"To those who serve our nation, who risk life and limb for country, we must never be denied care access or treatment that they need", said Trump before signing the VA Mission Act in the Rose Garden of the White House Wednesday.

In addition, VA will increase information sharing with community providers and provide non-network providers with educational support to treat the unique healthcare needs of veteran patients. "If not, it will be just another piece of paper Congress has written". There was no counterpart over in the Senate which helps explain why it was rolled into the current bill.

The bill replaces the Veterans Choice Program, which, although popular and effective for many vets, was plagued with funding problems, leaving vets to foot the bill for their care from private providers.

In 2017, GAO found that veteran benefits enrollment and appeals processes are extremely inefficient, which caused veterans to wait months to receive initial health benefits and upwards of three years to complete benefit appeals. AIR, or Asset Infrastructure Review, of the entire VA system is the fourth part. "Our veterans deserve to know that our nation will support them when they return from the frontlines, and that's what this bill is all about". "The decision of where you get your care will be, as it should be, between you, your doctor and the VA", he said. Dunn's proposal would give veterans needing organ transplants more access, allowing those who live 100 miles or more from VA transplant centers have their procedures done at other medical facilities though it would need to be federally certified and cover Medicare patients.

Trump's recently announced tariffs are only the latest move signaling USA departure with traditionally close allies. If Donald Trump doesn't care about "being isolated", then G7 may be better being G6, says Emmanuel Macron .

To address the issue, the Mission Act includes a prompt pay provision. Of critical importance to PVA, the MISSION Act will finally expand the VA Comprehensive Family Caregiver Program to those veterans injured prior to September 11, 2001.

"We do our veterans no favors by promising care without backing it up with resources", said Sen. The career bureaucrats and 370,000+ VA employees who will be charged with carrying out those new regulations in their day-to-day work need to believe a new day has, in fact, arrived.

"It's something that has been sorely needed for many many many years", said retired Major John Haynes.

More than a dozen federal unions wrote a letter to lawmakers saying that the bill "gives the VA secretary the authority to privatize and dismantle broad swaths of the VA health care system" and "assures that once care and services leave the VA they will not return". VA has said its medical facilities are "often 40 percent better in terms of wait times" compared with the private sector. Roe cited an example of a large VA campus in Pittsburgh that serves few people but costs $3 million to keep open.

As the term for that act neared its end, the Veterans Affair Committee began work on taking the improvement process further.
