Paul McCartney brings James Corden to tears on "Carpool Karaoke"

FREE Sir Paul Mc Cartney looks unimpressed with James Corden’s recreation of some famous Beatles looks

It had been a magical mystery tour as Paul McCartney led James Corden through his hometown of Liverpool during a "Carpool Karaoke " segment on CBS' "The Late Late Show".

While most of the installment featured Paul and James singing Beatles songs, they also tackled "Come On To Me" from McCartney's forthcoming Egypt Station album.

They ended up in a pub, where some local imbibers were treated to a live performance from McCartney with a backing band performing "Hard Day's Night", "Obla Di Obla Da", "Love Me Do", and "Back in the USSR".

But perhaps the most powerful moment happens when McCartney and Corden sing "Let It Be" in the vehicle and Corden chokes up with tears. "And I felt so sort of great and boy - it's going to be great, she gave me the positive words".

Following the classic tune's origin story, Corden and McCartney sang "Let It Be" together in the auto - an experience that moved "The Late Late Show" host to tears as he explained what the song means to him.

"Your music is so full of positivity and joy and a message of love and togetherness", Corden said to McCartney.

In the vehicle, they chatted a bit about the first song McCartney ever wrote.

"If my granddad was here right now, he'd get an absolute kick out of this", Corden tells McCartney, reminiscing on hearing the song back when he was young. "I had to text him back and was like, 'No dude, that's not what we meant.' What we were trying to say was it was uncomfortable to sit in a vehicle and try to sing our own songs". McCartney replied. More from their joy ride here.

"The Late Late Show" returns to US soil next week at it's regularly scheduled time (12:37 AM EST/11:37 PM C), only on CBS.
