Violent Video Game Encourages Players to Take Part in School Shooting

The Active Shooter game has been removed from Steam after received an angry blacklash

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter died in February's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, expressed outrage in a tweet about the game.

A computer video game called "Active Shooter" has been removed from the owners of a video game marketplace.

Over 200,000 also signed an online petition, started by Stephanie Robinett on Change.org.

"This developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who had been previously been removed last fall when he was operating as '[bc] Interactive" and "Elusive Team, '" the statement to Variety read.

Valve said Tuesday that it was removing the game because the developer is a "troll with a history of customer abuse". "We are not going to do business with people who act like this toward our customers or Valve", Lombardi said.

Active Shooter was set to launch on June 6.

China anger over United States 'provocation' in South China Sea
The move has been conducted several times in the past three years in defiance of China's claims it owns the disputed territory. Chinese officials have accused Washington of viewing their country in suspicious, "Cold War" terms.

Valve discovered the man was the developer behind "Active Shooter" when they began investigating amid controversy surrounding the upcoming game, Lombardi said.

"While I can see people's anger and why this might be a bad idea for the game, I still feel like this topic should be left alone", the game developer said. If nothing else, Active Shooter is in poor taste, arriving when emotions are still raw over recent events.

Valve's reasoning behind Berdiyev's exile from the platform seems to relate more to his business practices and previous offenses than that of the controversial content, which could be the reason that the similarly controversial Hatred is still available for purchase.

"Revived Games believes violence and inappropriate actions belong in video games and not real world, and insists that in no event should anyone attempt to recreate or mimic any of the actions, events or situations occurring in the game", it said. In GTA V, for example, a player can pay a prostitute to have sex, then beat her to death and take back the money. One video of the game showed the shooter killing civilians.

Robinette's concern is that not enough research has been done to find out how video games may be linked to violent behavior. The game received a whirlwind of press after the developer made a decision to add the option of playing as either the shooter or as a civilian attempting to survive a shooting event taking place in a school.
