North Korea has begun dismantling nuclear test site

The researchers published an analysis of satellite images from May 7th of the nuclear facility on Monday.

A photo of the west portal shows that nearby buildings have also been demolished.

But President Donald Trump, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and others have welcomed the decision, saying it's a measure of the North's sincerity in its recent outreach to the global community.

KCNA said journalists, including from the United States and South Korea, would be invited to cover the event, to "show in a transparent manner the dismantlement of the northern nuclear test ground to be carried out". He did not specify what the military had seen.

Additionally, some of the rails for the mining carts appear to have been removed, while some carts look like they have been tipped over or disassembled, the monitor said.

"Other more substantial buildings around the facility remain intact, including the two largest buildings at the Command Center, and the Main Administrative Support Area", the researchers wrote.

The ventilation system for the tunnel system under Mount Mantap, which covers the testing facilities, also was apparently being broken down, the report added.

Clinton, during a visit to Australia last week, said USA officials should make no concessions to the North Korean regime without seeing concrete action from Pyongyang.

'Make no mistake about it, America's interest here is preventing the risk that North Korea will launch a nuclear weapon into L.A. or Denver or to the very place we're sitting here this morning, ' Pompeo said from Washington.

South Korea's deputy nuclear envoy Jeong Yeon-doo will visit the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna this week to discuss the "complete denuclearisation of North Korea" the foreign ministry said on Sunday.

It is also one of eight countries with nuclear test capacity, including the United States, China and Iran, which have so far failed to either sign or ratify the 1996 Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, blocking it from taking effect.

But local people and Algeria's government said the tests - including the 1962 "Beryl Incident" when radioactive rock and dust escaped from an underground nuclear blast - left a legacy of environmental devastation and health problems that last today.

After last pact between North Korea and United States, Pyongyang destroyed in 2007 cooling tower of Yongbyon nuclear power plant, where plutonium has been manufactured for its bombs.

Last week, the North Koreans released three US prisoners, clearing the way for Trump to announce the date and location of the summit with Kim.

"We hope North Korea will seize the moment and take the bold steps necessary to lead North Korea to a peaceful and prosperous future".

Shutting down North Korea's nuclear test site is trickier than it might seem.

"If North Korea has really made a decision to denuclearize, it has no reason not to invite them", the editorial said.

A spokesman said: "A permanent and irreversible closure that can be inspected and fully accounted for is a key step in the denuclearization of (North Korea)".
