Hero 'Spiderman' Climbs 4 Stories to Rescue Child Dangling From Balcony

A man who's now being called a real-life "Spiderman" rescued a child dangling from a balcony in Paris this weekend.

Mr Molins told the BFM TV news channel that the father had left his son at home to go shopping, and had taken longer than expected to come home because he was playing the virtual reality game Pokemon Go on his smartphone.

The boy had left Réunion, where his mother and grandmother live, about three weeks ago and moved to Paris to join his father, who was working there.

The French media reported that the father of the small child was detained for alleged parental neglect.

Emmanuel Macron congratulated Gassama for "an exceptional act" and said France would give him a job in the emergency services.

Mamoudou Gassama rose to fame on Sunday after he climbed four storeys in 30 seconds to reach a toddler dangling from a balcony by his fingertips. The hero, Mamoudou Gassama, will be made a French citizen, the Elysee Palace announced today. "And thank God, I saved him", Gassama said. I also invited him to submit a naturalization request because France is built on desire and Mr Gassama's commitment clearly showed that he has that desire! I like children, I would have hate to see him getting hurt in front of me.

The Eighth Amendment to its constitution , passed in 1983, gave "the unborn" and mothers an equal right to life. Cheers erupted every time partial results were shown on two big screens transmitting the latest television news.

The AP reports Gassama has authorization to stay legally in Italy, where he landed in 2014 after a trip across the Mediterranean Sea from Libya.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said city officials also would ensure Gassama can remain safely in the nation's capital. On Tuesday, French authorities began the first steps towards making him a citizen in recognition of his bravery.

Christophe Castaner, a French minister and former government spokesman, wrote on Twitter that he admired Gassama for leaping to save a life without thinking of his own.

"I did not think, I saved him", he said.

After a brief investigation, law enforcement discovered that at the time of the incident, the boy's mother was out of the country visiting relatives in Reunion Island, and that his father was supposed to be looking after him. "The more I climbed the more I had the courage to climb up higher, that's it", he added.
