Amid Trump threats, Tehran says nuclear deal is all-or-nothing

Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid leads a faction meeting in the Israeli parliament

As markets, US allies and the government in Tehran question what might follow a USA withdrawal, the Trump administration remains focused on how it could toughen or replace the agreement to address issues such as Iran's behavior in the Middle East - including its firm foothold in Syria and support for Hezbollah militants that threaten Israel - and its continuing development of ballistic missiles.

"Iran stands firm in the face of futile attempts at bullying".

One EU diplomat said to the Financial Times: "Whatever the EU can do to protect its investment in Iran will not hold much sway if the U.S. reimposes sanctions". The International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations' nuclear watchdog agency, has issued 11 reports so far confirming Iran's compliance with the deal.

The nuclear deal is extremely one-sided. "They should have made a deal that covered Yemen, Syria and other parts of the Middle East", he said. But, he added, "That doesn't mean I wouldn't negotiate a new agreement".

The United States likely persuaded Israel into doctoring and framing intelligence Iraq War-style in a bid to undermine the Iran nuclear accord and pave the road for a USA invasion, analysts told Sputnik.

The US has accepted Israel's claims that Iran has lied about its 2015 nuclear agreement with the world's major powers even as Washington's European allies rallied behind the deal created to prevent Tehran from developing an atomic bomb.

Trump has always wanted out of what he calls the "worst deal ever". By opposing China on the Iran deal, Trump could weaken his hand.

Such attacks are considered more likely than actions that might trigger a US military response against Iranian nuclear and military targets. If he instead uses Israel's intelligence windfall to fuel a global pressure campaign, he may actually have a pathway for getting a better, longer-lasting and more enforceable agreement. Relations could easily sink to the 2003 level, when the United States' bullheaded invasion of Iraq split the alliance. "In contrast, the U.S. has consistently violated the agreement, especially by bullying others from doing business with Iran". The impression in Tehran is that, instead of concentrating on Riyadh's attacks on civilians, world leaders have focused their attention on the number of Yemeni missiles, which they claim to have originated from Iran. And even if some signatories agree to re-impose sanctions, there is little to suggest Iran's ambitions have been severely thwarted by decades of sanctions anyway. Netanyahu, who opposes the pact, described in detail what outside observers, including the IAEA, had known for years-that Iran had once pursued a nuclear weapon, dubbed Project Amad. Had they been fully effective, there'd have been no need for the nuclear deal in the first place. The facility, which is located underground, was built for uranium enrichment. They put their trust in the reform-minded Hassan Rouhani, who subsequently fulfilled his promise to them of resolving the nuclear dispute with the west. Iran's tech-savvy young people are by and large more progressive than previous generations.

And that's all before the Russians weigh in.
