You can either take a selfie or a photo of someone else, but a person must be in the photo for Focus to work!

Focus makes the Instagram camera - in-app - the one to do all the magic. You simply need to tap on the subject and hit the shutter button to get a picture with a soft blur in the background. This works via artificial intelligence that will be working at all times in order to detect faces in the shot. Instagram's launch could also suck attention away from "fake portrait mode" apps like Magic Portrait Mode, FabFocus, LightX and Point Blur that can also add blurry background "bokeh effects" to images. After that, you should have your portrait-stylized photo or video, and then you can apply the usual filters, stickers, and more to the content. This feature will let users create a special image which can be used by others to follow them on Instagram.

Instagram rolled out a new feature that is similar to iPhone X's portrait mode, it's just more widely available. Once the photo is taken, it can be added to user's Instagram Story, it can be sent to friends, or it can be saved on the phone. So if you have an iPhone 6, you will not be able to play with the new feature. This new mode aims to be "giving the photo that polished look". It also makes it a whole lot easier for users to follow people without having to know their usernames. One could already tag their friends in their Stories, but if you've ever wanted a dedicated sticker for it, you now have it.
