Tesla shuts down Model 3 assembly again to fix bottlenecks

Tesla to push for 6000 Model 3 cars per week by end-June, Musk says

For starters, Tesla will move to a 24/7 production schedule for the Model 3, and Musk intends to bring in a lot more carbon-based lifeforms to assemble the vehicles.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has set an aggressive new target for production of the Model 3. This is an increase from the company's previous target of 5,000 per week.

Tesla and Boring Company CEO Elon Musk has had a rough time lately, with many sleepless nights at the office trying to fix the problems with the Tesla Model 3.

Either way, Tesla has orders for an estimated 400,000 Model 3s from customers who can't take delivery, because their cars haven't been built.

There's a suggestion of one more pause in production during May for further upgrades, but beyond that Model 3 production just got serious.

The auto maker said the halt - the second since February - was to improve automation and systematically address bottlenecks to increase production, a regular move by vehicle companies.

A California judge on Monday gave the green light to a three-year-old case claiming the social network violated IL law. Facebook sources said last week CEO Mark Zuckerberg could testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 10.

The goal Musk describes in the email is higher than the 5,000-a-week Model 3 target Tesla has set for the end of the second quarter, a potentially positive development that comes with some caveats.

Referring to the strenuous work as "production hell", he has even admitted to sleeping on a couch in a conference room at his Tesla factory in Fremont, California.

"Starting today at Giga and tomorrow at Fremont, we will be stopping for three to five days to do a comprehensive set of upgrades". For starters, Model 3 production (before the shutdown) stood at around 2,000 units per week earlier this month.

He added that the company needs to make 6,000 units of the Model 3 per week by the end of June in order to meet its goal. But Autopacific analyst Dave Sullivan says manufacturing doesn't normally stop for days, especially nine months after production began. The push follows production problems at the factory that have kept the company from meeting its manufacturing targets and worrying investors.

In the "profit" section of the leaked email, Musk said that Tesla is now at a point in which it will strive to be profitable. That's thanks in large part to the company's investment in the Model 3, which isn't likely to earn a profit anytime soon.
