Former US ambassador talks about Syria attacks

The result is missile and air strikes by the U.S., France, and Great Britain on three supposed chemical weapons factories. The military assault was a response to the chemical gas attack on the Syrian town of Douma last week in which 42 people reportedly died and many others, according to images and video, were left gasping for breath and foaming at the mouth.

However, one of the stated goals of the strikes was to deter Syrian President Bashar Assad's government from using chemical weapons again.

U.S. President Donald Trump again praised the decision to carry out the air strike in a tweet on Sunday, reiterating his claim that the missiles had delivered on their intended objective. He added, "So proud of our great Military which will soon be, after the spending of billions of fully approved dollars, the finest that our Country has ever had".

Trump had said "mission accomplished" on Twitter after the strikes, though US Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie at the Pentagon acknowledged elements of the programme remain and he could not guarantee that Syria would be unable to conduct a chemical attack in the future.

Putin and Iran have maintained their support for Assad despite his continued use of chemical weapons, which Russian Federation said it would stop in 2013. He said Russian Federation "should join our efforts to promote a political process in Syria that would allow a way out of the crisis".

The three allies circulated a joint draft resolution at the Security Council that also calls for unimpeded deliveries of humanitarian aid, enforcing a ceasefire and demands that Syria engage in UN-led peace talks.

The UAE is deeply concerned by the latest developments in Syria, following airstrikes by the US, UK and France on chemical weapons facilities over the weekend.

Penguins Prepare For Playoffs With Altered Approach
Yes, it's only one game, but in a playoff series, you don't have the luxury of waiting to see if things will turn around. Anaheim has won a Stanley Cup , so they know what it takes to get the job done. "That's the way you have to look at it".

And she said President Donald Trump told her Saturday morning that if the Syrian regime uses poisonous gas again "the United States is locked and loaded" to strike again.

"I urge all member states to show restraint in these risky circumstances and to avoid any acts that could escalate matters and worsen the suffering of the Syrian people", the UN Secretary General said.

"You will see that Russian sanctions will be coming down", she said.

A bullish Bashar Al Assad was in a good mood when he met a group of visiting Russian lawmakers after the attacks were more limited than predicted following Mr Trump's initially aggressive response to the Douma attack.

Mekdad declined to comment to reporters waiting outside the hotel where the meeting took place.

"Last night, the United States along with our British and French allies showed the world that the United States will not sit idly by while the Syrian regime uses chemical weapons to murder and maim its own people".
