Cavs' James on brink of breaking Jordan's mark

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James takes yet another step in his quest of chasing the "ghost that played in Chicago" as he surpassed a record set by National Basketball Association legend Michael Jordan.

With his 28-point showing over the first two-plus quarters against the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals, James moved ahead of Jordan for the most points scored in NBA Playoffs history. "I have been around some great teammates and coaches and two organizations that have allowed me to be who I am and so that's two and then just going out and playing for the joy of the game".

"I've stayed available, obviously", James said following a 41-point, 10-rebound, 8-assist performance in a win over the Hornets. Among current players, Houston's James Harden has done it in 257 games _ 410 behind James. "I think it's an incredible feat for him".

To put James' double-digit scoring mark in perspective, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's career scoring leader, scored at least 10 in 787 consecutive games.

He is currently seventh in the NBA's leading scorers of all-time and is now 1,410 behind Jordan on the list.

"I think records are always meant to be broken", James said.

LeBron James already has already won league MVP four times, and might be due for a fifth after yet another unbelievable season. I mean, he's just been phenomenal every game.

"It's pretty incredible. It's pretty incredible", James said of the recognition.

James matched Jordan's 17-year-old mark Wednesday night against the Jordan-owned Charlotte Hornets when he scored on a powerful alley-oop dunk on a pass from J.R. Smith in the second quarter. "It's like watching Michael Jackson on tour".
