Apple CEO Tim Cook Criticizes Facebook's Approach to Privacy

Apple CEO Tim Cook broke from Silicon Valley protocol when he criticized Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook (FB) in unusually blunt terms over its privacy flap.

Regarding this fiasco, Tim Cook stated "If we monetized our customer, if our customer was our product, we could make a ton of money", Cook said. He follows that with: "We've elected not to do that".

As Facebook continues to get blasted for its privacy snafu and the #DeleteFacebook campaign rages on, Cook insists that Apple will not "traffic your personal life".

Cook's remarks sound significantly more liberal than those of Apple's former CEO, Jobs, who repeatedly made his hostility to pornography clear.

Cook also said that even though "the best regulation is no regulation, is self-regulation", he thinks Facebook has moved beyond that point. We've worked for the music industry to code things explicit, and so a parent could say, "I don't want my child listening to explicit content".

However, he also said that self-regulation is the best thing companies could do, stressing how Apple chose to never use or sell the data of their customers. It all traces back to a personality quiz app that was installed by 300,000 Facebook users, and by granting the app permission to access contacts, it was able to amass a much wider collection of data.

Thursday , we're good to go with another springy day under a good mix of clouds and sun, highs will get into the low to mid 50s. A cold front will slide through early Wednesday evening bringing a small chance of a few brief light showers or sprinkles.

Speaking in an interview with U.S. network MSNBC and tech site Recode, the Apple chief executive said that while he believed tech firms should self-regulate, it was too late for Facebook.

In an interview to Recode/MSNBC, Tim Cook was asked what would he do if he was in Mark Zuckerberg's shoes and he responded: "I wouldn't be in this situation".

"I think it's their decision". "It's a civil liberty", he added. Since, Zuckerberg has been on an apology tour, and is expected to testify before Congress regarding the scandal.

Cook's comments, reported by Recode, were part of a taped interview for MSNBC's Revolution, which will air Friday, April 6. We want kids to go to the store, right, because kids - there's a lot of learning, education apps in the store.

You're the product." Zuckerburg had mocked Cook's ridiculous concept by saying, " What, you think because you're paying Apple that you're somehow in alignment with them?
