Kabul bomb: Bishop confirms Australian embassy cars attacked, no staff hurt

US urges India Pak to hold talks

TWO Australian security contractors have been wounded in a auto bomb blast in Kabul, which killed at least three Afghan civilians.

The blast occurred in Qabil Bai area along Kabul-Jalalabad road roughly at 8.50am local time after explosives in a vehicle belonged to a foreign forces' contractor company detonated, Najib Danish, an Interior Ministry spokesman tweeted.

He once insisted that peace is one of the top requirements of the nation and a national consensus has been established and the government is committed to take practical actions for the proposals that were shared during the Kabul Process summit. (AAP) DFAT says no Australians were injured in the attack.

It was first thought no Australians were injured in the attack on Friday, but Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has confirmed two suffered minor injuries.

A 12-year-old boy was believed to have been killed in the blast.

Speaking at the inauguration of a one-day worldwide conference on February 28, attended by 20 nations and aimed at creating a platform for peace talks, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said a framework for peace negotiations should be created, with the Taliban recognized as a legitimate group, with their own political office to handle negotiations in Kabul or another agreed-upon location.

After an global peace conference in Kabul, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday unveiled a plan to open talks with the Taliban, including eventually recognising them as a political party.

In this open letter, he urged the Taliban to accept a ceasefire and peace talks with the Afghan as well as the US government.

Since November, the U.S. military has increased its air raids against Taliban positions, training camps and their heroin laboratories, which are an important source of revenue.

The Taliban have themselves twice offered to talk to the United States in recent weeks, but have ruled out talks with the Kabul government, a key sticking point that must be resolved before any talks can start.

After 17 years of guerrilla conflict and several diplomatic false starts, American officials take nothing for granted - and they still expect the spring thaw to herald more fierce fighting.

Much of the centre of Kabul is already a zone of concrete blast walls, razor wire and police checkpoints, but security has been tightened even further after the January 27 ambulance attack and another attack on the city's Intercontinental Hotel earlier in the month.
