Trump Administration Maintains It Is Tough on Russian Federation

New charging documents against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort were filed Wednesday

In a separate appearance on the radio show, former FBI Assistant Director Ron Hosko said the indictment brought last week by Mueller against 13 Russians and three Russian companies demonstrates that the meddling was real.

McFaul went on to question whether Trump had even an inkling of toughness on Russian Federation, accusing the president of "never criticizing Vladimir Putin", which would obviously be a clear sign of non-toughness.

VOA looked at the some of the comments made by Trump and actions taken by the Obama administration regarding Russian interference in the 2016 elections. At least 60 out of the 99 points make mention either directly or indirectly of the fact that the defendants attempted to interfere, either in whole or in part, with the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Some of the key lawmakers who authored a new law toughening sanctions against Russian Federation said they were largely satisfied with the Trump administration's early implementation. Trump has said little on the severity of the threat or how it could be overcome, instead often focusing on whether he is a target of Mueller's investigation or insisting that any meddling would not have changed the results of the election.

In regard to the reports on Russian meddling in the U.S. election: American democracy was hijacked long ago by money and powerful interests, turning it into what amounts to a system of legalized corruption.

Russians promoted Trump and disparaged Democrat Hillary Clinton in propaganda and field operations in the part of a broader effort to subvert the 2016 election, according to Mueller's indictment last week of 13 Russians.

The biggest Russian rally success appears to have been an anti-Trump event in NY after the election; it drew 10,000 people. Obama also slapped new sanctions on Moscow over its US election activity. Since then, his administration has drawn criticism for failing to implement the sanctions. The compound has been used by Russian Federation diplomats for years.

The suspect was also killed, though reports said it was unclear whether he was killed by police or else took his own life. A police officer in Mobile, Alabama was shot and killed Wednesday during a standoff with a suspect.

"We ought to expose, what did the Obama administration know and what did they do?" he said. It's time not only to fight back - but also to try to find common ground, uniting at least on this issue, to protect the democratic values and democratic system that most of us cherish, before it's too late. At the end of January, the Treasury Department published a list, but didn't impose sanctions on individuals doing business with Russian military or intelligence bodies. Send a letter to the editor, and you just might get published.

Even with best efforts, many acknowledge there is no way to be fully prepared.

The Honest Ads Act (H.R. 4077) would close the disclosure loopholes for campaign-related ads being run by foreign interests on the internet and thereby make it harder for foreign social media campaigns to go unnoticed, the Deter Act (H.R.4884) would provide strong new sanctions for any foreign interest interfering in our elections, and the PAPER Act (H.R.3751) would provide federal assistance and financial support for states to modernize the security and protect the integrity of their election systems.

What may be most disconcerting in the entire affair is what it says about the state of democracy in the country that is supposed to be the model for the world. He says numerous obstacles to preparedness are "institutional barriers".

When ordinary Americans unwittingly magnified Russian efforts by reposting their material on social media, and attending demonstrations they organized, the Russians no doubt felt that their investment was paying dividends.

"I think the president is reflecting a legitimate question, which is being expressed by many Americans", he said.
