Minn. AG Will Sue FCC Over Internet Neutrality Guidelines

With less than a week before this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Chairman of the Federal Communications Comission Ajit Pai has made a decision to bail on a scheduled appearance. The FTC released a brief message stating, "Unfortunately, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai is unable to attend CES 2018".

In November, CTA announced Pai would join Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) acting chairwoman Maureen Ohlhausen next Tuesday for a "candid discussion" about the 2018 regulatory agenda of the agency.

The FCC has been the target of much anger from the tech industry over its unpopular decision to end its net neutrality regulations. However, two unnamed agency sources told Recode that Pai canceled his appearance after receiving death threats.

It is the second time that Pai's safety has been threatened.

There are also accusations the FCC failed to investigate abuse of its public commenting process.

Russian Daily Oil Output Edges Up in 2017 to 30-Year High
WTI prices were further boosted by an EIA report of a 4.6 million barrel weekly drop in US commercial crude storage levels. Iranian oil industry and shipping sources said protests have had no impact on oil production or exports so far.

Security at CES has already been tightened in recent years, as terrorist threats have arisen and the trade show has grown to more than 200,000 attendees.

In December the FCC voted 3-2 to overturn the net neutrality rules, meaning ISPs will be able to block or slow down access to certain services.

Finds that the regulatory uncertainty created by utility-style Title II regulation has reduced Internet service provider (ISP) investment in networks, as well as hampered innovation, particularly among small ISPs serving rural consumers.

In the last four weeks, the FCC received 242 ex parte filings, which are lobbying-focused communications from companies and organizations that largely detail conversations and meetings with agency staffers. Democrats in Congress plan to force a vote on whether to repeal the new rules.
