Amazon Alexa is coming to your microwave, for some reason

Amazon is making it easier to bring Alexa to devices like headphones and smartwatches

As a result, increasing numbers of third-party companies have moved to add Alexa compatibility to their products so that Echo speakers and Alexa-compatible smartphones can be used to control appliances around the home. Amazon's Alexa-powered devices Echo, Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote were the retailer's No. 1 and No. 2 top-selling over the holidays products, respectively, Amazon said. Going forward, those customers will be able to use shorter, simpler voice commands when using Alexa to control their oven, and receive updates on their food as it's cooking.

Now Amazon is making strides to expand that trend beyond lights, door locks and televisions, and into the kitchen.

Initially, there are four new capability interfaces in the Smart Home Skill API and it includes Alexa.Cooking, Alexa.Cooking.TimeController, Alexa.TimeHoldController, and Alexa.CookingPresetController. Instead of pressing multiple buttons to enable advanced microwave features, users can simply use their voices.

Mom: Black Lives Matter icon Eric Garner's daughter in coma
With former president Obama, Garner criticized his reactions to her father's death and the slow pace of the DOJ investigation. A grand jury declined to indict the officer; the city agreed to pay a $US6 million ($7.6 million) civil settlement.

Hisense says Alexa support will give its 2018 TVs "a wide variety of voice features right out of the box" and that Alexa will help users "control certain primary functions, including voice commands, changing inputs and controlling volume". Whirlpool has already created its own Alexa skill for microwaves, and plans to launch it "soon". You might, for example, tell Alexa to set the microwave for 3 minutes or ask Alexa to preheat the oven to 300 degrees. With the built-in cooking device controls in the Smart Home Skill API, you will make it easier for your customers to control your cloud-connected microwave.

"We're excited to take the next step in our work with Amazon through the Alexa Fund investment and to offer our customers even more engaging experiences with their June Ovens", said Matt Horn, CEO of June Life. Do let us know in the comments.
