Trump Reportedly Thought About Pulling Gorsuch's Nomination. Here's Why

The Washington Post story itself acknowledges that it is "unclear" whether Trump was seriously considering rescinding the Gorsuch appointment or merely voicing frustrations with the headlines.

President Donald Trump reportedly told associates earlier this year that he was thinking about withdrawing Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the U.'S.

Trump had launched into a series of attacks against federal judges who had ruled to stop his travel ban on Muslim-majority countries during Gorsuch's confirmation process, leaving the Supreme Court nominee to field questions from senators about the comments. Had Trump followed his impulses, that easily could have become one of the wildest and most self-defeating moments of his young administration. Gorsuch, before his confirmation, was rated as being to the right of Scalia.

Gorsuch, according to several people with knowledge of the situation, distanced himself from the president and was critical during the meeting of Trump's comments on the judiciary, according to the Post.

White House spokesman Raj Shah also denied that the president had considered withdrawing Gorsuch's nomination. Trump did not receive it until March 10, suggesting a White House in utter disarray.

As might be expected, Trump blasted The Washington Post report as "FAKE NEWS" on Twitter.

He reportedly fretted over whether Gorsuch, lauded by the mainstream Republicans that have sometimes clashed with the White House, would be "loyal" and wondered if he were sufficiently grateful. Richard Blumenthal of CT that he found the president's heated attacks on judges blocking implementation of his travel ban "disheartening" and "demoralizing".
