Saudi coalition OKs resumption of United Nations flights to Yemen

Lebanon's Jumblatt calls for Saudi Iranian discussions

Millions in Yemen are at immediate risk if food aid and the supply of fuel for pumping clean water are interrupted, he said.

The coalition had said it would lift its blockade of the port from Thursday but it remains in place. Two days later, the Saudi-led coalition announced it would reopen the Sanaa airport and the key Port of Hodeida for humanitarian purposes the following day. The United Nations has warned that war-wracked Yemen faces a mass starvation unless aid deliveries are allowed to enter the impoverished country.

After a missile launch by the Houthi rebels targeting Riyadh, Saudi Arabia chose to tighten the blockade of Yemen, which hampered the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Yemeni civilians.

United Nations officials say Yemen is facing the world's largest cholera outbreak, near-famine conditions in places, and a severe breakdown in the health care system in what was already the Arab world's poorest country — adding up to the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

The International Committee of the Red Cross landed a passenger flight at Sanaa on Wednesday, spokesman Ewan Watson told AFP.

Some 17 million Yemenis are in desperate need of food, seven million of whom are at risk of starvation, according to United Nations figures.

MS-13 Members Decapitated Man in Maryland Park
The suspect, 19-year-old Miguel Angel Lopez-Abrego, who has an unconfirmed address, was charged with first-degree murder. He had short, dark brown hair and a missing lower tooth that may have been noticeable when he was speaking or smiling.

A second flight carried Russian diplomats, according to an airport official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. That missile was intercepted near the airport in Riyadh. Iran has denied supplying the Houthis with weapons.

In response, ships were ordered to leave the Red Sea ports of Hodeida and Salef, the only lifeline to northern Yemen where most of the population lives.

Airstrikes and ground fighting have left more than 10,000 people dead and driven 3 million from their homes since the coalition intervened in the war between forces loyal to President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebels.

"Humanitarian aid alone can not resolve the issue in Yemen right now", said International Rescue Committee director Paolo Cernuschi."It can not meet all the needs of the Yemeni population".

The remarks came as Yemen's defenseless people have been under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime for almost three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.
