Facebook will show users what Russian propaganda they liked or followed

At the very least, this new tool could list accounts whose content users saw or clicked, even if they didn't follow the account that created it.

On Wednesday, Facebook displayed a mock-up for the new tool aimed to show users if they liked or followed the suspicious accounts on the platform.

Facebook has created a tool that will allow users to see if they liked or followed any accounts linked to Russia's "Internet Research Agency" that intentionally spread misinformation leading up to the 2016 US presidential election.

"We look forward to additional steps by the companies to improve transparency with respect to Russian abuse of their platforms", Schiff said in a statement.

In addition to creating the bogus accounts, which were designed to spread misinformation and influence U.S. voters, Facebook said the Kremlin-linked Internet Research Agency spent $100,000 on over 3000 ads displayed around the time of the election.

Police officer shot and killed, suspect flees
Police have identified the shooter as 29-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt and released a photo of him on Twitter late Saturday evening. National Football League head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers also gave his condolences.

Facebook has reported the bulk of the alleged propaganda came from the Internet Research Agency, a Russian-based firm believed to have deep ties with the Kremlin.

This is part of our ongoing effort to protect our platforms and the people who use them from bad actors who try to undermine our democracy.

Today Facebook said it will create a portal that will let users see if they followed or liked any of the pages linked to Russian propaganda.

About 150 million people saw Russian propaganda on Facebook, the social network told US investigators previously, according to Business Insider, although reports from various outlets have this number varying from 120 million to 150 million. Facebook has since deactivated the accounts. Those with Facebook accounts will be notified if they hit Like on ad campaigns or posts that were classified as part of the Russian meddling effort. Perhaps more than 140 million - on Facebook and Instagram combined - might have been served a story produced by dubious Russian sources as a result of their friends interacting with that content. The search would also be limited to the January 2015 - August 2017 timeframe.

It's "much more challenging" to reliably tell people if they were exposed on an individual basis, Facebook General Counsel Colin Stretch told Congress earlier this month. Facebook has said 29 million Americans saw Russian troll content directly shared to their feeds, but 126 million total saw posts including reshares, with 10 million seeing ads.
